Work experience

It is unbelievable that only a year ago I was working my notice with Clinique Laboratories in order to study for my NCTJ diploma in Journalism.  Time is moving at warp speed for me and my life.  Please slow down!

Tomorrow, I’m off to Hearst magazines in London.  They publish magazines like Red, Good Housekeeping, Elle and Prima to name a few. I am going to be there for two weeks gaining valuable work experience.  Yes, you are never too old for work experience.  I wonder if they have ever had anyone as mature as myself. Number 5 on the cheddar cheese packaging!!!

Hearst Magazines

I finished my journalism course at the end of June 2018 and was lucky to be accepted for work experience back in August 2018.  However, I had to keep trying and you would have thought I had won the lottery when they finally said ‘yes.’  When I got the next available date, I couldn’t believe it would be the following year, 2019.

Excited is an understatement.  Scared to death is more like it!  I just don’t know what to expect and my mind constantly plays out different scenario’s. The anticipation of day one is killing me.

As a woman of a certain age, I am having mixed emotions.  My brain tells me I am too old, the offices will be filled by young attractive females.  Brain also tells me that I don’t know what I am doing, don’t know what I am talking about etc, etc.  I tell you, I just can’t wait for day one to put all these fears to bed.

Talking of bed, time to put these fingers to sleep and hope that my brain shuts down for a few hours so I my body gets some repair time.  I hope brain doesn’t spend the night clock watching!

Good night.
